The retirement destination of many Americans is not another part of the country or a foreign destination; it’s the city where they built their lives, according to a new report from Step2Health, a provider of health and wellness products.
To find out what makes a city good for older adults, Step2Health looked at the well-being and livability standards of the most populated cities in the U.S., which were also ones with high populations of older people, according to the data it analyzed.
More than a report on the best places to retire, the study evaluated metropolitan areas on how well they cater to the changing needs and expectations of the growing and longer-living adult population in the country.
Researchers ranked the top 10 U.S. metropolitan areas out of the 20 most populated ones, using a simple weighted methodology and recent data in three broad primary parameters, based on 10 secondary parameters:
- Health: Air quality, obesity rate, access to exercise, health insurance rate and healthy diet.
- Well-being and convenience: Income level, marital status and flight connectivity.
- Safety: Crime rate and access to law enforcement,
