Robbinsville Senior Center Getting Moving with Outdoor Fitness, Health Classes

ROBBINSVILLE, NJ — The Robbinsville Township Senior Center has created a variety of health and wellness programs to get seniors moving and living a healthy lifestyle. The combination of fitness classes with strength training, yoga to center mind, plus pickleball and hoola hoop to get the heart pumping will certainly do a body good. 

Celebrating Older Americans Month, the Robbinsville Senior Center has reimagined their health and fitness programs to keep seniors healthy during the pandemic while engaging in physical activity. Thanks to the work of senior volunteers Ed Drago and Ruth Mannino programs will be held outside for smaller groups of seniors.

The Senior Center is offering a variety of health and fitness options, for people age 60 and older, including:

  • Outdoor exercise class on the outdoor Bocce Court held every Monday, Wednesday and Friday (rain or shine) between 9:00a.m. and 9:45a.m until October 29. Participants must bring their own weights.
  • Yoga Class every Thursday until October 28 (rain or shine) at 10:00a.m. until 11:00a.m. also on the outdoor Bocce Court.
  • Hula Hoop Fitness demonstration class on Wednesday, May 26 between 10:30a.m. and 11:15a.m.
  • Pickelball classes beginning on June 25 on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 8:30a.m. and 10:30a.m; and Wednesdays between 5:00p.m. and 8:00p.m. This class is open to individuals age 55 and older, health permitting. Pickleball equipment provided; sneakers and sports clothing required; a hand towel, cold water and sunscreen recommended.

The Senior Center and Robbinsville Hydroponic Farm are partnering up on National Senior Health and Fitness Day on May 26 at 12:30p.m. until 1:30p.m. for “Lettuce Talk Salad Tasting.” Participants need to pre-register for this educational event to talk about healthy eating. They are asked to bring a face covering.

All classes are held at the Robbinsville Township Senior Center located at 1117 Route 130. Classes are open to 15 individuals with Robbinsville residents given priority attendance, however a wait list is available if the classes are booked.

It is up to the individuals if they choose to wear a face mask during the outdoor activities. They will be socially distanced six-feet apart during class.
