Keira Knightley BMI is way too low
OK magazine did a piece on celebrity BMI (body mass index) in their March 17th 2008 issue. Keira Knightley, who we all know is super skinny, was listed as having a BMI of 16.4 which puts her in the “starvation” category according to this BMI chart. OK lists Keira Knightley’s height as 5′7″ and her weight is 105 lbs. What do you think of Keira Knightley? Too skinny? What about those abs?

I think she’s definitely too skinny, but she has fantastic abs. I would starve myself for those!
Well, probably not, but they look great.

shes a naturally skinny person, if she was starving herself, the tops of her thighs wouldnt be as thin as the middle of her thighs, and she wouldnt have such great abs becaus eher body would be eating the muscle. My friend has a BMI of 14, and she’s one of the biggest eaters i’ve ever seen. She’s always got something in her mouth. Kiera’s just a lucky girl. And she’s not too skinny, she looks fantastic.

Haylee - seriously??
You can see deep cut bone and extreme muscle definition. Lucky? That’s absurd. If a woman wants to look like this, she has some serious mental issues to deal with.
Keira is far far too skinny in this image. She could easily put on 20lbs and still look absolutely amazing (and not like a holocaust victim).

Personally, I used to have an eating disorder and i am recovered now. Looking at Kiera Knightly she does NOT have an Eating Disorder, and she is not too skinny, her BMI might be low but she looks great, If she was starving herself or throwing up her face would be skinnier and she would not have a six pack.

All women should look like this. If you don’t, you are way too fat.

Hello,
Santa I totally disagree with jou. Every BMI below “19″ is very unhealthy and you can get harthrithm problems and so on. I’m a woman, have got a BMI of “20″ and am totally satisfied. According to me she looks like a skeleton. I know people who can’t help being thin, but I’ve seen foto’s of her and she hasn’t been like that before. Santa are you a woman or a man. What’s your BMI I like to know. Are you satisfied when you’ve got a BMI from “18″ and still are overjoyed when you’ve lost 5 more pounds? Cause then you’ll need some serious help.
(Sorry for my English, but I’m Dutch)

Looking at her photos, Kiera looks like she’s in great shape - from eating right and exercising. There is nothing wrong with her by the looks of her. Yes, her BMI is probably below the so-called range, but those are merely guidelines that do not apply to people who are athletes, which given the shape that Kiera appears to be in, the BMI range would be invalid for her.

Many athletes have a low BMI and high percentage of muscle. Many indexes don’t apply properly to people that are on the extreme side of the scales (such as people who are very athletic). Many body builders would be considered starving according to BMI, and yet “overweight” by other standards (muscle is heavier than fat). The fact of the matter is that muscle “eats” fat. You can’t just look at a bunch of meaningless numbers or at a picture and make a determination. You really need to know WHY the person is as thin as they are.
There is a huge difference between people that work out, build muscle, and burn off fat and people that starve themselves. The reasoning is quite simple. When someone starves, they are both depriving themselves of calories and of vitamins and minerals necessary to remain healthy. However, a person that is thin due to exercise is taking in a lot of food, including vitamins and minerals they need, but working out enough to burn off calories to stay lean. In other words, they are getting the nutrition they need while staying thin, while a person staving themselves is completely nutritionally deprived.
Many actresses will only tone their arms and legs and will only put on muscle where it is most “socially acceptable”, such as the abs and sometimes the glutes if they have a flat butt. Most actresses do not want to have large arms and legs, and will try not to build mass there. Looking at those abs, I would guess that the girl works out pretty heavily to maintain the appearance she has. Of course, you can never really tell from a picture, but I would be willing to bet she simply eats right and works out.
If you are asking if she is “too thin” in regards to health, I would say she is likely health. If you are asking if she is “too thin” from an aesthetic perspective, well I would have to say I like girls with a little more meat on their bones.
