Green tea is known for its health benefits but it’s now gaining popularity for its ability to aid in weight loss. Perhaps it all started when Dr. Perricone said on Oprah that if she switched to green tea from coffee would lose 10 pounds in 6 weeks just making that one change in routine. Oprah was excited, to say the least! She’s had excellent results from green tea and it popularity as a weight loss aid has skyrocketed of course.

Green tea skyrocketed in popularity after Oprah Winfrey had Dr. Nicholas Perricone (of The Perricone Prescription) on her show discussing the benefits of replacing coffee with green tea. He said you could lose 10 pounds in 6 weeks just by switching to green tea!
Here’s the science behind why coffee is bad for you, from Dr. Perricone:
Coffee (and it’s not the caffeine) can result in elevated levels of cortisol and insulin, leading to weight gain. Remember, elevated insulin puts a lock on body fat. If you substitute green tea for coffee, and do nothing else differently, you will lose 10 pounds in six weeks. Source

Well Oprah did do this as she stated on her show, and started to take green tea. She didn’t say exactly how much she lost due to this green tea she’s been taking but she said it did in fact contribute greatly to her weight loss, which would explain why she loves green tea. Not only did it help her to lose weight, but it makes her feel great all day!

Oprah’s trend setting rule of thumb for weight loss is DO NOT eat after 7 at night, or at least 3 hours before going to bed. If you drink, it can only be water. I started doing this myself and the results are well worth while. I lost about 2 pounds in 2 weeks by just not eating after 7. At first it’s a little hard, especially if you’re like me and like to snack while watching CSI Miami, but it gets easier…as any routine does.
